"games For Change" Festival To Be Part Of Tribeca Film Festival

g4c Craig Hatkoff, co-founder of the film festival, says Tribeca is paying attention to "the transformative power of gaming" that goes beyond traditional entertainment. He wants the combined event to bring together "the most cutting-edge creators of games, educators, and the world's greatest story-tellers." Hatkoff, along his wife, the film producer Jane Rosenthal, and Robert DeNiro, founded the film festival in 2001, after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, to promote economic revitalization in lower Manhattan. According to the Electronic Software Association, the video game industry's lobbying organization, consumers in 2012 spent nearly $21 billion on video games, hardware and accessories; 58% of Americans play video games and nearly half of gamers are women. The typical gamer is now 30 years old.
